what cable/adapter do i need to buy to hook my macbook up to my HDTV?
I just bought a macbook yesterday. the sales lady was nice enough to tell me about a site (blue jean cable) that has the cables/adapter i need at a cheaper price but i didnt write down what she told me to get! i have a Sony Bravia LCD 1080p TV and the new 2.4 ghz regular macbook. (not pro) i appreciate any and all help!
You have to go back to the place you bought the Mac from or to the Apple store. You’re going to need an adaptor (that I doubt the other place sells). You need to get a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter. They are about $30. Then you need a DVI to HDMI cable or DVI Cable with a DVI to HDMI adaptor. Then you can go from your MacBook into your TV via HDMI. If your TV doesn’t have enough spare HDMI ports, you could also buy a Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor if the TV has a VGA port (likely colored blue). That covers the video.
If you want video, your headphone jack is a dual purpose port. You can take a toslink optical audio feed out of it to your TV (I would think most Sony HDTVs would have optical in) or you can just go stereo mini to RCA (headphone jack to red/white). That would carry the audio for you if you need it.
